MRM

MRM (Magneto-Rheological Material or Magneto-Sensitive Smart Materials) are smart materials consisting of fine, magnetizable particles (typically iron) whose rheological properties change through the application of a magnetic field. These iron particles are between 1 to 10 microns in size, less than a tenth of the diameter of a human hair.
When MRM is exposed to a magnetic field, the particles inside link and change the rheological state of the material. This change occurs in less than 0,5 milliseconds, more than 200 times faster than the blink of an eye. Once the magnetic field is removed, the MRM reverts to its unlinked state.

The secret behind our INVSHOCK technology

Low system requirements without performance compromises

In our InvShock dampers, we primarily use MRF (magnetorheological fluid).

When MRF is exposed to a magnetic field, the iron particles in the fluid link and transform MRF from a liquid to a semi-solid. This effect is shown by the MR technology demonstrator.

Once the magnetic field is removed, the smart material reverts to its unlinked state.

The characteristics of MRM

Fully adjustable & incredibly accurate

The degree of change the MRM undergoes when exposed to a magnetic field is related to the magnetic field’s strength. The stronger the magnetic field, the higher the yield stress of the material.

Therefore, the MRM’s level of stress resistance can be controlled very accurately by varying the magnetic field’s intensity. This has made MRM the ideal technology for applications, such as brakes, suspensions, and dampers.

Durability & reliability

Proven over time

While smart materials such as MRF (Magneto-Rheological Fluid) or MRP (Magneto-Rheological Powder) are new to most people, MR technologies have proven themselves for over 20 years in the automotive industry in suspensions or steering systems, most prominently in the Audi’s® suspension system of the TT or R8 models.

MR dampener systems can also be found in the construction or medical industry. But no other system can compete with the performance of InvShock.
